Q. When do I need to book my cake?

Generally speaking, as early as you possibly can. Wedding cakes should ideally be booked at least 3 months in advance, but I do take bookings up 18 months in advance, so it is never too early.

Availability is dependent on the number of orders being processed at that time.

For celebration cakes, 3-2 weeks’ notice is always preferred.

At certain times of the year, there may be room for last minute orders – so it is always worth calling as we may be able to accommodate your order.

Q. How can I contact you?

Q. What information do you need?

The date, the venue, type of event, number of servings is a great place to start.

We can have an initial consultation to discuss the basics to include your vision, requirements, venue details, flavours, design, delivery, collection etc.

Q. I have an idea for my cake, but I’m unsure?

Pictures on my website can give you inspiration and a starting point. All cakes are individually designed so we can incorporate a lot more of your own personality in there. We can work together to create a cake to complement your wedding or celebration. I love working outside the box too, so let’s talk

Q. How much cake will I need?

Once you have a guest list, we can talk quantity. Portion sizes can vary – the number of guests, whether you are having other desserts alongside or if the cake is the only dessert, and remember not every guest will want cake, but equally you may want to take some home to enjoy later. We can discuss this in the consultation.

Q. Fresh Flowers

Confused about which ones to have?

I always recommend that your florist supply them to ensure that your flowers are a perfect colour match to the rest of your floral arrangements. Once you have decided, I am more than happy to liaise with your florist to talk through the finer details. Please ensure your florist’s details are on the confirmation return form.

Fresh flowers need a lot more thought as some flowers can potentially be toxic – this is the responsibility between your florist and yourself to ascertain which flowers will be suitable for your cake.

Q. Cake Consultations

I only hold cake consultations for Wedding Cakes. As it is a home based, consultations are by appointment only – please see more details in The Cake Journey.

Q. Do I have to place an order once I have had a consultation?

Absolutely not. Cake consultations are offered with no obligation. They are charged at £30.00 for two people – but this fee is deducted from the final price of your cake should you choose to go ahead and book with me.

Q. How and when do I pay for my cake?

A £100.00 non-refundable and non-transferable booking fee is payable for wedding cake orders to secure your date. 50% of the total cost is payable on confirmation of the design. The remainder payable 4 weeks before your special day on the date as set out in your order confirmation.

For celebration cakes 50% is payable on booking with the remainder 50% payable before collection or delivery.

I can accept payment by bank transfer, cash or debit/credit card using Stripe. Please ensure if paying by BACS, debit or credit card, that we have received cleared payment before collection or delivery. Please note; if funds have not cleared before collection or delivery, I will only accept cash.

Also note; no booking is confirmed until a booking fee has been paid. All booking fees are non-refundable.

Q. Where will my cake be made?

Silverleaf Cake Company is a home based business and all of my cakes and bakes are made in my home kitchen in Northampton. I am fully insured with both public and product liability, registered with my local authority and hold a 5 star food hygiene rating


Q. I have guests with allergies

Whilst I am able to make cakes that are gluten/dairy/alcohol/egg/nut free, I operate in a kitchen where all these allergens are present, and therefore cannot guarantee 100% free-from.

All cakes are provided with allergen information and the webshop has allergens listed.

Q. Can I alter the cake design after booking?

I am happy to work with you on designing your perfect cake until you are happy with the final design and will be as accommodating as possible. That said, I cannot take alterations one month before the wedding or celebration as by this point the planning and ordering of any specific requirements will already have been done. If any alterations affect the overall cost of your cake, your balance will be adjusted and any additional costs must be paid.

Q. Collection and Transportation

Cakes can be collected personally on a date specified in advance – kindly ensure that you collect at the agreed time, as once confirmed, I cannot accept liability if I am unable to accommodate a change. Collection outside of the agreed time may not be possible, so please ring in advance if you are running late to ensure you are still able to collect.

Also note that once it leaves our premises, we are no longer liable for the cake. Responsibility of the cake and safe transport transfers to the customer. We cannot be held responsible for any damage that occurs once the cake has left our premises. 

We recommend you place the cake on a flat surface in the boot of your car – preferably wedged in or in a larger box or crate. The passenger seat in your car is not a good place as it slopes…and if you hit the brakes suddenly, the cake will fly off!

Q. Can you deliver our cake?

Yes. Primarily Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, but I have delivered to places as far away as London and Derby. Please ask for a quotation at time of booking.

Delivery charges are calculated according to the distance. If you choose delivery, please notify us of the time of the wedding or event at the time of booking. We will liaise with your venue to arrange a mutually convenient time. We are unable to specify exact delivery times. There is a small possibility that we will not be able to deliver your cake due to adverse or freak weather conditions such as snow or floods and that these conditions may make your venue inaccessible, or other such reasons outside of our control. We strongly recommend that you purchase wedding insurance to cover yourselves for this eventuality

Q. Do you hire out cake stands?

Unfortunately I do not hold cake stands or knives to hire out. Most venues offer this service free of charge (sometimes chargeable) as part of the wedding package – so please do check.

I am happy to source these for you if needed, but the cost will depend on the company hiring them.

Q. How long will my cake last?
Cakes will keep up to 1-2 days after delivery as long as they are stored properly. It is recommended that once the cake is cut any left overs be wrapped securely in foil to keep the cake fresh. Serviettes and tissue absorb moisture from a cake and can cause it to dry out so are not recommended.

Q. How should I store my cake?
All cakes should be stored at room temperature, out of direct sunlight on a flat stable surface. They should never be refrigerated and should be left in their box until required. Our cakes do not contain any preservatives or additives and should be treated as a fresh food product.

We recommend that your cake is consumed within 1-2 days of delivery or collection. Any cut sides should be carefully wrapped in cling film to prevent drying out your cake.

Q. Can I use or reproduce any images from your website?

All content and images within the website are subject to copyright and owned by Silverleaf Cake Company and cannot be used or reproduced by other parties without explicit consent first.

Q. What if I need to cancel my cake?

Celebration cakes can be cancelled up to 1 week before the required order date. This must be done in writing and receipt of your cancellation must be confirmed in writing by us.  Any booking fees and monies previously paid will be forfeited. If you cancel your cake with less than a week’s notice and production of your cake has commenced you will be charged for any components already made. If your cake has been completed payment IN FULL will be required.
